Who We Are
Who We Are
We are a church that celebrates the diversity of God’s creation. There is great variety in the beliefs affirmed by our members. Still, there is great unity in our fellowship, and we believe that our differences add to the richness and strength of our congregation.
We strongly uphold the worth and dignity of all people and strive to serve all of the members of God’s people of all races, creeds and national origins. We believe that all people are a part of God’s family, live by God’s everlasting grace and are cared for and held by God’s love.
We seek to be a gathered group of God’s children, empowered by the Holy Spirit in worship, work and witness, and committed to the example of Jesus Christ.
Congregational Life
Worship is at the center of who and what we are. We meet at 10:15 a.m. on Sundays. Celebration of the Lord’s Supper is held on the first Sunday of each month, and all are welcome at our Communion table.
Ministry of music features Chancel and Bell Choirs. We feel that music is an essential inspiration in our worship as we seek to learn and live the Word of God as it comes to us through life and scripture.
Spiritual nurture comes through participation in worship and sacrament, through intentional time devoted to the study of scripture, through the guidance of the members and ministers, and through the sharing of our journey through life and faith with each other.
Fellowship is an integral part of our church family life. We gather for coffee and conversation each Sunday following worship and share in many activities for all ages throughout the week. We join in small group gatherings, committees for our various ministries, and project groups to extend these ministries in the greater world.
Christian Education is one of our greatest concerns, and we are devoted to providing a place for this for all ages. We hold classes for Kindergarten through 12th grade during worship from September through May, and provide many opportunities for adults throughout the year.
Confirmation is a year-long study program for eighth grade students. Our Youth Ministries provide opportunities for grades 6 to 12 to encounter and share in the call of Discipleship in a fun and interactive Christian environment.
Our Church, Your Church
Community Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) has a long history within the community of Villa Park. Founded in 1912 as a “house church”, our congregation grew quickly and established the current church facilities in 1921.
Located on the corner of E. Highland Avenue and S. Cornell Avenue in Villa Park, our congregation is a place to live the Christian Faith and to explore the glory of the Call of Discipleship. Please come join us for worship and maybe you will decide to be a part of our growing church family.
United Church of Christ
The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a union of four different Christian traditions, whose history stems from the beginning of the United States. The merger of these faith traditions took place on June 25, 1957.
Because of this, we represent many different Christian traditions joined in the mission of following God’s Word in our lives and work. The local church is the basic unit of our denomination, and this allows each congregation to share in unique and exciting ways in which to join in worship and community. Each congregation is able to decide how to best minister to its community–both local and in the greater world. Visit the Testimonies of the Faith on the UCC webpage to learn more about the denomination.
